SFBB: SFBB, the Food Hygiene Rating Scheme and Scores on the Doors

Using the SFBB scheme can have a significant positive impact on the rating of a business within the national Food Hygiene Rating Scheme.

What is the national Food Hygiene Rating Scheme?

The Food Hygiene Rating Scheme is now being implemented in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, and the Food Hygiene Information scheme in Scotland. Over 160 local authorities are now signed up to the FHRS. The FHRS replaces the old Scores on the Doors schemes and publishes a rating for all food businesses based on their inspection ratings. Central to the award of a rating is the level of compliance and contraventions determined through EHO inspection visits, and core to this is the requirement for a documented food safety management system. High scoring sites may be rewarded with lower risk ratings and reduced inspection frequencies.

In order to ensure that the Food Hygiene Rating Scheme is fair to businesses, it has been designed to include a number of safeguards. These are an appeal procedure, a 'right to reply' and an opportunity to request a re-visit when improvements have been made. This is not always the case in Scores on the Doors schemes.

NSF-CMi is a strong supported of the national Food hygiene Rating Scheme as a fair and transparent scheme which offers a number of advantages to business compared with the Scores on the Doors schemes. Click on the linked publication below for information about the difference between the FHRS and Scores on the Doors schemes.
